BE INFORMED, KNOW THE DIFFERENCE IN MACA!
For years companies have claimed the benefits of the maca without giving consumers any insight into what actually goes into the product. Is it organic? Is there any source verification or point of origin? Further more is it even maca?!
In the late 1800’s a German scientist gave the edible root consumed by people of the Andes, the botanical classification, Lepidium Meyenii Walpers, after himself. In the late sixties (1960’s that is!) Dr. Gloria Chacon chose to dedicate her life to the maca after studying many native edible plants, maca seemingly possessing the most medicinal and therapeutic properties along with heavy cultural significance.
Dr. Chacon’s studies are regarded as the most in depth and her name is harmonious with the species named after her quest to identify the highest quality, heirloom maca prized by the ancestral Inca: Lepidium Peruvianum Chacon.
Equally important, is the care that goes into every aspect of maca’s year long existence while thriving in the harshest elements Pacha Mama can produce at 14,500 ft. Chacon’s name gives an endorsement, not only to Sol Raiz Organics complete nutritional profile, but also to the integrity behind the brand's quality assurance, traditional growing methods ensuring the future of the crop while exceeding standard fair trade practices.
Meyenii vs. Chacon (Photo)

Lepidium Meyenii Walpers is a broad categorization most often applied to roots grown in lower elevations or without point of origin. In order for many companies to meet burgeoning demands for this popular superfood, they are contracting growers of low quality roots that produce up to 3 harvests a year (perennial).
Sol Raiz Organics Maca, Lepidium Peruvianum Chacon, is an annual and we plant accordingly based on our yearly projections. Our products are organically grown, hand tilled, hand harvested, traditionally gelatinized and go through the same traditional ceremonies that have taken place over centuries.
