On August 15th, 2007 a magnitude 8 earthquake hit Pisco, Peru. The largest earthquake there since 1970.
Sol Raiz Organics is reaching out to bring attention this disaster.
With the help of our friends in the San Diego and Hawaiian communities,
we plan to help raise enough money to reconstruct Miguel Grau Primary
School at the epicenter of the quake in Pisco.
Although, according to Peru's Ministry of Education, nearly 1,000
schools have been destroyed, we plan to focus on Miguel Grau in hopes
it will speed up reconstruction of everything around it. It has become
a focal point to accomplish a task that may take months.
Sol Raiz Organics has a deep relationship with Peru and tremendous
respect for their culture. We have no plans or ideas to flood the kids
with anything materialistic such as toys, etc. We believe resuming
school will be a great way for kids to get through a rough transitional
period after such a tramatic event.
Sol Raiz Organics efforts in Peru will be headed and overseen by Luis
Castillo, our friend and trusted partner in Peru. Luis is a Maca farmer
and accomplished Andean musician. He has gone above and beyond the call
of duty to relieve his neighbors in Pisco. Luis has been working around
the clock to provide those without food and shelter with maca nectar,
blankets and other necessities. He has made a large campaign to alert
the media of the efforts of what we are trying to accomplish here.
Our fundraiser on September 14th was a huge success. We will continue
our fundraising efforts and will be putting progress updates here on
the website.
